Save Our Soldier (SOS) saved a soldier. In fact, they’ve saved many. SOS are a charity that has a tremendous impact on saving the lives of former front-line military, blue light services and they go the extra mile to ensure their respective partners are also supported.
It is often painful for veterans to look back at the dark events that affected them and SOS CEO Lee Hayward recalls the time they received a call from a man in tears, desperate for help–a decorated soldier, who had been told by the NHS that he didn’t qualify for help as he didn’t meet their criteria. That man who had certainly met the criteria of the government to put his life on the line was desperate and felt abandoned but the outstanding care he received from SOS literally saved that former soldier's life.
Charles Bailey who is well known for campaigns such as police recruitment, Don't Shoot - anti guns in schools, the Archbishop of Canterbury task force, Man Utd and Arsenal team songs plus many more is a friend of that soldier, who is a former army medic.
He told Charles about how Save Our Soldier helped him through the darkest of times and literally saved his life. This inspired Charles to reach out to SOS to support the charity and after discovering that most of the calls come from the veterans partners the idea to create a record was born.
The song, titled Saved a Soldier and is a unique collaboration between Charles and the band BRB which is already generating an enormous deal of interest and has received high praise after BRB performed the song at a memorial day event in London as well as at Big Phil’s remembrance boxing event at the Brighton Hilton.
Charles has also created a video featuring top actress Leila Ayad which tells the story of a soldier coming home and struggling with Post Traumatic Stress being helped after contacting Save Our Soldier.
The campaign is very close to Charles’ heart as his grand father from Jamaica fought in France during the first world war, where many soldiers suffered from PTSD. Charles, and his nephew Ashley one of the artists in BRB wanted to tackle the issue of PTSD head on and use the project to educate young people about our past and present contribution. The video superbly does this.
Save Our Soldier is a conduit to access specialised and much need help - but it isn't about the charity - it’s all about the men and women who keep our country and streets as safe as possible. All profits from the song will go to SOS and will be used to raise awareness, provide resources and train more coaches to help more families and those who otherwise suffer in silence.
These are certainly exciting times for Save Our Soldier who have been working with Dragon, creators of the world’s number one entertainment coin to introduce technology to integrate digital currencies into their websites and wider ecosystem.
Dragon are offering their full support through consultancy and working closely with Lee and the rest of his team. Dragon have a strong connection to military charities as you can see on their website, Dragon co-founder and former Royal Marine Commando Paul Moynan is looking forward to working with SOS who have a real desire to work together to help raise awareness of veteran’s needs.
