It was a night where legends were made, and dreams were shattered.  New Year’s Eve in New York saw Dragon athletes Sean ‘O’Connell and Josh Copeland stepping into the cage in their unrelenting pursuit of a World Title belt and a cool $1 million in prize money.

Long term Dragon Ambassador Sean O’Connell overcame his opponent Vinny Magalhaes with a third-round TKO to secure the PFL Light Heavyweight title and the $1 million prize.  Ever the crowd pleaser, O’Connell taunted and stalked Magalhaes around the ring and picked him apart with vicious strikes knocking him down and then beckoning him to get back up.

O’Connell had previously disclosed that this would be his last fight, and he concluded his 11-year career on a magnificent high saying,

“I want to thank PFL and Dragon for supporting me… they believed in my talent and recognised my work ethic when others didn’t. This has been life changing–and all you’ve got to do is win.”

Wise words, but easier said than done perhaps, as Dragon team mate Josh Copeland unfortunately found out in a bruising encounter with undefeated fan favourite, Brazilian Philipe Lins.  After a sluggish start where both fighters cautiously pawed at each other with jabs, in round four Lins unleashed a ferocious torrent of knees and punches on Copeland who demonstrated true Dragon spirit to endure the punishment before the referee to stepped in.

Despite not winning the title, Copeland finishes the year $200, 000 better off, and the Dragon is licking his wounds with his focus clearly set on next year’s competition.

This week also saw Litecoin announce that it would be following Dragon’s lead by becoming involved in supporting MMA events.  Imitation is undeniably the sincerest form of flattery, but they are nowhere near to being able to provide the innovative technology that Dragon have already tested in live environments.

The coming year will see fans able to purchase tickets to watch events such as this using Dragon Coin (DRG), the world’s number one entertainment coin as well as being able to buy food and drink once in the event through the secure and easy-to-use Dragon Social Wallet.

So as the new year begins, Dragon have a champion in the world of professional fighters and winning motor sports teams–head over to our blog to find out more.
